Trailer, Steam, and The Final Ascent Gameplay

GLOOM Turns the Climb into a Fog-Covered Expedition
GLOOM introduces a darker atmosphere than many of PEAK's earlier environments.
The launch trailer shows scouts moving through thick fog, dark vegetation, reduced visibility, and areas inhabited by ghost-like figures.
The environment forces teams to think about more than the next climb. Limited sightlines can make navigation and keeping track of other scouts more difficult.
GLOOM does not simply join every existing biome in one permanently expanded route. Instead, it becomes an alternative to CALDERA within the map rotation.
For the first two weeks following the update, every daily map will feature the new GLOOM and THE CITADEL combination. The normal random rotation begins afterward.
THE CITADEL Fills Ancient Structures with Traps
The second new biome, THE CITADEL, takes scouts through a large ruin-like structure packed with mechanical hazards.
The trailer shows floors that produce spikes and large spiked objects swinging like pendulums across the route.
Poor timing can knock scouts away from their route, cause injuries, reduce stamina, or leave teammates trying to rescue someone who has fallen into a dangerous position.
THE CITADEL serves as the new alternative to THE KILN.
Once the initial two-week period ends, a daily mountain may generate either the CALDERA/THE KILN route or the GLOOM/THE CITADEL variant.
Jetpack, Glider, and Warp Fungus Expand Traversal
Three new items are openly identified in the patch notes.
The Jetpack replaces a backpack when equipped. Players can fuel it with assorted items and use the resulting boost to reach greater vertical heights.
The Glider specializes in horizontal movement. It can cross large gaps effectively, although stamina remains a limitation while airborne.
Warp Fungus is a strange new fungus growing on the mountain. Team PEAK offers only one suggestion: throw it and find out what happens.
The patch notes also confirm additional items that the developers refuse to describe, leaving part of the update for players to discover naturally.
Clown Luggage Now Holds the Weird Stuff
A new luggage category called Clown Luggage has also been added.
Opening one produces a collection of unusual items, and several existing objects have been moved into its loot pool.
The Lollipop, Cannon, and Balloon Bunch now spawn from Clown Luggage rather than Climber Luggage.
Auto-save behavior has been changed as well. Loading an existing auto-save no longer deletes it immediately; the save disappears only after the run ends, whether the team succeeds or fails.
Ascent 8 Arrives While Ascent 7 Gets a New Rule
Players looking for a harder climb can now attempt Ascent 8.
Team PEAK deliberately withheld its description because explaining the modifier would spoil the surprise.
Ascent 7 has received a more substantial redesign.
Its previous rule prevented dead scouts from being revived. The developers concluded that the restriction made runs less enjoyable and had little meaning for solo players.
The replacement rule makes scouts start cursed and gain additional curse whenever someone is revived.
Repeated deaths therefore still have consequences without permanently removing teammates from the rest of a multiplayer run.
Ten More Badges and a Scoutmaster Mystery
THE FINAL ASCENT adds ten new badges and matching cosmetic rewards.
Team PEAK jokes that this will be the last time completionists have their 100-percent progress disrupted by a fresh set of achievements.
Mysterious statues have also begun appearing throughout the island.
The only clue provided is that they appear to have some connection with the Scoutmaster's original lost troop.
What that means is intentionally left for players to discover rather than explained in the patch notes.
Older Biomes Receive Balance Changes
Version 2.0.a also adjusts several pieces of existing content.
ROOTS has been tuned so its difficulty is less of an outlier compared with TROPICS. Beetles are slightly less aggressive, spore mushroom ranges are smaller, and average gaps between windstorms have increased.
MESA has been lowered to align its height more closely with ALPINE.
Campfires can now grant Morale Boosts to solo scouts, while Ancient Luggage appears slightly more frequently throughout the mountain.
Fortified Milk, Scout Cannon, Scoutmaster's Bugle, Checkpoint Flag, Cursed Skull, Energy Drink, and several other items receive rarity or balance adjustments.
Why Is This the Last Major Update?
Aggro Crab and Landfall emphasize that PEAK was never intended to become a live-service game.
The game was designed to feel complete at launch, with major post-release updates treated as additional material rather than the beginning of endless content production.
PEAK's unexpected success caused the developers to spend significantly more time expanding it than originally planned.
Team PEAK is also a relatively small group made up of developers from two separate studios. Following THE FINAL ASCENT, Aggro Crab and Landfall want their teams to return to their own independent projects.
That does not mean PEAK is being abandoned. Bug fixes and maintenance will continue until the developers are satisfied with the game's stability.
Console Ports Become the Next Major Focus
With the last major content update complete, the team is moving further into work on console versions of PEAK.
Landfall confirms that console ports are actively in development.
No individual console has been named, meaning PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo platforms should not yet be treated as officially confirmed destinations.
What has been confirmed is the intention to support cross-platform play.
Console players are planned to be able to climb with the existing Steam community and with players on other supported console platforms.
More information about the ports is expected later in 2026, although no release window has been announced.
